Pointers for Pointe Shoes
I remember when I first signed up to take pointe along with my other dance classes. When I went to get my new pointe shoes I remember being confused as to how I should find the best fit. Of course the show fitter was trying to help me, but after trying on dozens of pairs I was in no mood to listen. After my first year of pointe I finally had an idea of what I required from a shoe, but each time I had to get a new pair I still felt overwhelmed. This can happen to a lot of girls looking for the ideal pointe shoe.
If you are in need of some pointers for buying pointe shoes, then I’ve got them. It comes down to five things that you should look for in your shoes:
- Shape of the box. This depends on your toe shapes. There are three types of foot: ”Peasant” (first three toes close in length), “Greek” (long second toe), “Egyptian” (long first toe. Each foot requires a different shaped box: square shape for “peasant,” tapered moderately for “Greek,” and tapered for “Egyptian.”
- Length of the shoe. You want your shoe to be snug like a cast, but do not want the satin in the back of the shoe to cause any discomfort.
- Width of the shoe.
- Support of the shoe. The shoe should give you support and stay on your foot always.
- The look of the shoe. You want your shoe to be beautiful and look as if it is an extension of your beautiful ballet body.
